Swarm control!
Spring is nearly upon us.
Join us Thursday, February 20th at 7 p.m at the Orange County Extension Office, 6021 South Conway Road, Orlando.
Join us to discuss methods that work for controlling your bees’ natural instinct to swarm from your hives! There will be equipment samples, and methods discussed.
We may have a raffle for items in inventory, along with examples and discussion about basic beekeeping equipment.
We’ll be in the Azalea Room (first door past the restrooms on your left). We’d love to have you join us!
If you need beekeeping equipment or supplies please contact D&J Apiaries and they will bring it to you!
Saturday Workshop
On Saturday February 22, 2020 we will have a workshop (weather permitting) in the apiary behind the extension offices.
We’ll perform regular inspections in each hive, get current varroa count samples (both sugar and alcohol shake methods), with demonstrations! We’ll examine each of our hives for swarm signs, and discuss methods for controlling that behavior.
When visiting the apiary: Do not wear leggings, shorts, skirts and dresses, or all dark clothing. Try to wear denim jeans and light colored clothing so as not to agitate the bees. If you are not wearing proper protection you will not be permitted in the apiary. If you have any questions please contact us and we would be happy to advise.
